Aug 16, 2014 · Avoid teh FreeNAS wiki. It is full of very misleading info. Not necessarily wrong, but worded in such a way as to lead people to disaster. They are very tricky about how they word things. It's become infamous for not telling people to use software RAID but convincing them that it said it.
Dec 23, 2020 · Yes, it's slow and always has been, but it gets the job done, given time. With Ethernet it's fine. With Wifi ... well, better have a really small system to restore. The initial backup and first restore are both as fast as expected. But with Big Sur, APFS and M1 Macs: one, two or all of those factors somehow make incremental backups very slow.
We have a brand new PowerEdge R630 with a PERC S130 RAID in a RAID-1 configuration. The system has terrible read speeds. Around 10MB/s max. The OS (Windows Server 2012 R2) was factory installed, but the system was slow out of the box. We've updated all firmware and drivers to the most recent version (4.0.0-0037), but the problem persists.
No, but there's very little to go on. Technically, your advice is sound. However, the Realtek will become a problem sooner or later and it's a very easy fix, considering there's already a NIC in there that can be easily swapped out for the Intel. Main: FreeNAS 11.2

Jun 26, 2011 · Slow file transfer I have just set up my network again which I used to have on my XP pc and found the file transfer to my NAS to be very slow indeed. It took over 10 minutes to transfer just a 1GB file. Is there a way to speed it up ? The NAS is connected via wifi. My router is a Billion Bi-Pac 7402NX. Network & Sharing: Slow transfer speeds
Second, your iSCSI target probably uses write-through. So what you're seeing in the iSCSI write test is probably the actual sequential disk write performance of your NAS, because your iSCSI target writes directly to disk (no write caching) while samba does not (and this is where it's very important to use a big enough dataset).
Thanks. Really helpful…. my itunes playlist itself isnt that slow at all but whats really bothering me is the itunes store. I have that absolutely latest software version available(10.1.1 i think). Anyway, the itunes store is so so so so slow and sluggish that you can barely navigate the page. It easily freezes up and other stuff like that.
